First off let me say that I am a big flip flop/sandal girl :) I pretty much live in them as soon as I can in the Spring and for as long into the Fall season as possible (without freezing my feet off)
Last summer while on a walk with my son I literally walked right out of one of my flops. The between-the-toes piece broke and pulled out of the sandal. So I threw them in the stroller basket and walked home barefoot. While cleaning out the garage this past weekend I found them again and thought... "I can do something with those..." and in fact I did.
First I cut the plastic straps off the shoe bottom.
As I mentioned in my Shoe Rack to Bookcase post I have a couple clothing refashion projects I'm working on. I cut up this dress for the bottom and had these top triangle pieces left over.
To make sure they fit over my feet the right way I threaded the fabric over my foot and through the two holes on the bottom first. When I had the fabric pulled through so that it would be the right size I clipped it with clothespins to hold and threaded the fabric between my toes and through the front hole and clipped that as well.
I didn't have enough fabric to make a good knot so I hot glued the fabric on all sides of the hole and covered each fabric filled hole with a large button to help fold the fabric in better. They are kind of clicky on hard surfaces but I'm sure that will wear off once I walk on them more.
These are super comfortable and I really like the little embroidered pattern :)

Wow, that is so smart! They look really stylish and didn't cost you anything.
